Artist Statement

Mosaic Artist Mike Juarez, partnered with Michael Cody are Denver, Colorado’s own MountainBean Mosaic.
Mike. J. Vivid color. Nature. A deep Spirituality. My Hispanic and Native American heritage, and the American Southwest are my greatest influences. My inspiration comes from the unique and the unusual that I encounter everyday. Our Mosaic Murals are about visually enhancing personal and public spaces that otherwise may be a bit bland and un-inspiring. I consider our work to be colorful, vibrant, whimsical, interesting, intricate, and an extreme tactile experience. With each of our Mosaic Murals, a story is told or presented through the application of tile, pottery, and glass. With this in mind, the texture, the graphics, and the reflective qualities, grasp, embrace, and spark a passersby’s interest from a distance or up close. Cody and I create Mosaic Art Murals that are definitely a focal point where people meet and greet or choose as a defining reference location for the area. We enjoy building Mosaics that are functional as well, including Water Features and Seating areas. Each Mosaic Mural we build also becomes the perfect backdrop for that special photo op. We are proud to include many re-purposed materials in our projects. Porcelain tile. China. Stained glass. Sandstone. Pottery, and Mexican Talavera are some of our favorites to incorporate into the Art. Whenever possible we like to include the client and the community in our Mosaic projects. By donating personal objects into the work, the client and the community feels a sense of pride seeing their own contributions into a major work of Mosaic Art. By that rule Cody and I try to integrate and re-purpose almost anything the public perceives as second hand or throw away into our work. We also appreciate and purchase custom, hand made, artisan created tile and pottery into our work as well. By doing so we promote small business and create exposure for the Artist or Potter.
